I thought this movie was absurd...

I thought it was OK at first, even though the Italian dubbing over the Indian actors was a bit off. But as the movie went on, I just found it absurd... There were so many things that just didn't make sense to me. Like the scene where they put a boy and a girl in the same room, then one of them would wake up at a time and have sex with the other. I just find it extremely unbelieveable that a girl would wake up, see a handsome sleeping buy and have sex with him. And then when one of the characters turned into an ape and that woman said "I will help him, even if it costs my own life", why would she risk her own life? She didn't even know him.

I'm sorry if I have upset fans of this movie or it's director. I don't think Pasolini is a bad director, but the old italian movie style didn't just work with Indian actors to me.

If you thought this was crazy, you should read the rest of the source material.

Really? That was the story of my teenage years.

Because females don't have any sexual desires? I don't know if you're a remarkably limited person who may need to meet more women or what. I like that Pasolini was up front about women's sexual proclivities rather than just portraying them merely as playthings for men.

This film is an adaptation of One Thousand and One Nights, a collection of ancient and medieval folk tales. So your criticism that it's absurd and "didn't make sense" really isn't valid. It was never meant to be a realistic movie.

Oh yes because all people wake up and want to *beep* the random person sleeping next to them for some reason.

Yeah, been there...

It is completely absurd...and that's why it's one of the best films ever.

Agreed.

Maybe the OP needs to watch it on magic mushrooms.

I liked how they didn't modernize these ancient stories, they just told them.

I'm done with Pasolini.
I had only bored myself with "Teorema" before this.

As people have told you before, it's based on the book, and because of it it manages to be as repetitive and endless as its source material. Sorry, not a fan. I would not read it once again.
This, besides taking forever and having bad acting manages to include horrible special effects. Maybe it was revolutionary at the time but it doesn't stand the test of time at all.
It's so random, but of course you can see dicks to please artsy fartsy people with a like for the "shocking" and "scandalous", give me tame any day if it includes an actual plot and a sense of rhythm.

And people telling me that I like basic stuff starts posting in 3, 2, 1...
