GOD I love BUNUEL MOVIES

WOW, its so unbelievably refreshing to watch his films in this day in age. Movies today are so useless and pointless, to watch a Luis Bunuel film is so marvelous, I love it. Even if his films are complex, and often non-sensical, his ideas, his imagery, his surreal mind continues to amaze me.

After I first saw this movie I paced for a half hour and had a conversation with myself.

After I saw his my first Bunuel film I went out and got a camera and now, many years later, I get to work in non-nonsensical television. Hooray for bad luck

Agree, some movies are only good to "shut down and entertain your mind" for a couple of hours (i.e good pop corn flicks such as Spiderman, X-Men, etc.), some others have some impact on you for a while (some well crafted dramas) but Buñuel's movies affects you deeply and remains somehow "forever" in your mind.

I saw "Le fantôme de la liberté" for the first time when I was just a kid, 20 years later I still remembered some scenes from the movie very vividly. I just saw the movie again and I was delighted as the first time and found new meanings. If I watch it again within 20 years more, surely the same will happen.
In contrast I just saw a cheesy western last week starring "John Wayne" and all what I can remember right now are lots of killed people and explosions. Most likely sooner than later I'll forget it totally.

Most films by Buñuel have the same effect, movies like "El ángel exterminador", "Nazarín", "Simón del desierto" or "Viridiana" just to name a few. Ages since the last time I saw them but still can remember them very well.

Just a few directors can achieve this, people like Kubrick, Eisenstein, Kieslowski, Hitchcock, Bergman, Fellini, etc. The greatest masters.

Viva don Luis!

I've only recently made my way into Bunuel and god.... I've seen The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, Belle de Jour, Un Chien Andalou, and just yesterday the Phantom of Liberty. The Discreet Charm was first, and to the guy who said that after the first one he saw he paced around, you could have been describing me. I can't wait to see more. Great, great, great....

Yeah, bunuel is one of the greats, first time you see el, that obscure object of desire, un chien andalou, etc., any bunuel film, its like being introduced to something you never imagined could exist.

I just finished watching this film - It's the first Bunuel film I've seen, but I can't agree more. He's a fascinating director and I look forward to checking out some more of his films! I've always been fascinated by surrealism, but I haven't seen many quality surrealist films so I've been put off for a while - Granted they were usually David Lynch films... Mulholland Dr seems to get a lot of acclaim but I found it just plain crap and quite an ugly film, but this film was amazing and fascinating.

I do too! He's one of my favorite directors. His films are so entrancing, refreshing, satirical, enigmatic, funny, meaningful, and original. This film is another testament to his appeal. Films these days are so formulaic and unoriginal. David Lynch's films seem cold and pale by comparison.

Good for you. I, on the other hand, am yet to find one that´d really get under my skin, really amaze. Un Chien probably comes closest, but a lot of his work is just kinda too much in-your-face and obvious. Which to a certain extent even applies to the ones I like best - like Viridiana or El Angel Exterminador.
