"Emmanuelle:Uncut
The most popular soft porn film of all time, and a breakout box-office hit around the world, Emmanuelle stars Sylvia Kristel as the eponymous heroine who is sexually awakened through a series of erotic adventures. For the first time in it’s history, the film has been passed UNCUT by the BBFC and will be released as such."

Thanks kemp-10, for mentioning Optimum. I have ordered Emmanuelle. In Moviemail's latest catalogue, they have it at 90 mins, ( as have Amazon.) I have complained before to sellers about selling shortened versions of movies. ( OK, in this case it's only due for release later, but many are available already.) Obliged.

I've just finished watching the DVD - brought back memories of when I saw it on the big screen 30 years ago. I still have the hots for Sylvia!

Received the dvd today but was disappointed to find the running time was 90 mins. approx and not the 105 mins as originally stated on the Optimum Releasing website (since corrected to 90 mins.) and on play.com (http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/3274723/Emmanuelle/Product.html).

The 90 mins. running time is similar to the Momentum Pictures 2001 release of Emmanuelle (http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/reviews/details.asp?Index=1787) but with the 'opium den' scene.

Unlike the 2001 release the 2007 re-release is the mono dubbed english version - no stereo, no other audio tracks and no subtitles.
It does include the 30 min. interview with Yves Rousset-Rouard (producer) and Just Jaeckin (director), 12 scene access and trailer.

I received the following e-mail from www.optimumreleasing.com

"The DVD was incorrectly listed as being 105 mins on our website, and should have been listed as 90 mins. But I have corrected this.
However, even at 90 mins, according to the BBFC ours is the first UK DVD to include the cut 'opium den' scene.
I hope this answers to your question.

a qeuestion: if the 'opium den' scene has been included (in it's entirety, may i presume?) in the 2007 release, then how does the running time match the 2001 version which didn't have this scene? has something else been cut from the 2007 version?

also, does anyone know if any American dvd is uncut and properly framed?

George Stevens: "Give it more awe, John."
John Wayne: "Aw, truly he wuz the Son of God."

I also would like to know if this release is available in the US. Also, I will believe that this version is not the one already included in the Anchor Bay (3) movie collection. I have an older VHS Emmanuelle and I know that that one for sure is an edit. Thanks to all who know.

It would be in violation of Trading Standards for this release to say it's uncut if it's not, and the BBFC entry on the website clearly says 'Uncut version - previous cuts waived'. Differences in running times are usually down to technical factors and the fact that different media run at different speeds (I don't know where you got the information saying that the running time of the 2007 version matches the one from 2001 when the BBFC website says that 2001's runtime was 89:44 and the 2007 version's one clocked in at 90:26).

According to another thread on here, the American version is cut by ten minutes.

reply

The current American DVD, from LionsGate, is completely UNCUT.

The rape in the opium den scene, cut from the previous release, is only about 45 seconds long, so it might not change the listed time on the dvd. I believe this 2007 version is indeed uncut, however because this version is dubbed into English with no French language option, i don't know if this is worth the purchase..
