Curious gender reversal?

I was saw this movie along with American Pie and had a thought.
Would anyone take this movie seriously if the lead was male.
Kind of like a serious, erotic and classy version of American Pie.
I can't think of another one of this type. Maybe The First Time (1969). That movie had a kind of tenderness to it that I like.
