Miles Quade practice stunt crash

When Miles attempted the loop the loop but wrecked....was that a dummy on the motorcycle?

reply

No, that was the stunt man, Bud Ekins, the crash wasn't in the script, it actually happened, he wasn't hurt though, and they decided to keep it in the film.

It's funny, I was watching it again last night, and I rewinded that scene about 15 times looking for a break in the film to see if they actually put a dummy on a bike at wide open throttle. That crash looked like it would hurt badly the way the bike was mangled on impact.
I'm guessing they used the copy of the first take and edited it so the stunt man wouldn't have to retry it. I can see him realizing it might be a lot harder to do and they said forget it.

I remember that crash as a kid. Rewound That scene ten times with my daughter convinced it was a real film accident. Then laughed to see it was the same footage when he tries again a moment later. They cut out jut as the tire leaves the loop, cutting in a "riders eye" view of the track as if it were really happening, then cut back to rider on the downside of the loop.

It's hilarious!
I like the way the ramp is right next to the loop. I'm sure his 20 mph wouldn't cut it!
