Psychotic portraits..

I've seen this a long time ago and watched it again last again.I like the premise and I like Taylor's performance.I was thinking that so many great and not-so-great movies are about beautiful disturbed -or at least high-strung- women. Some that I can think of are:
Lilith
Repulsion
Marnie
Identikit
Scissors

Interesting list of films about unhinged women. Here are a few random titles that occurred to me as I watched this:
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
Requiem for a Dream
The Baby
The Killing of Sister George
What's the Matter With Helen?
Let's Scare Jessica to Death

These aren't necessarily similar films, just movies with strange portrayals of women over the edge.

Some really good, interesting movies about crazy females on your guys' lists here!

I'll add a few more.

Ladies in Retirement
Heat (1972) - These ladies were hysterical with female lust.
Trash (1970)
Reform School Girls
All About Eve
Sunset Boulevard
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?
Mommie Dearest
Carrie
Come Back to the 5 and 10, Jimmy Dean
3 Women
Secret Ceremony
Can She Bake a Cherry Pie?

And one really tasty crazy female smorgasbord... TRILOGY OF TERROR!

Some of these ladies are maybe not really crazy, but rather merely tragic and not entirely functional (Carrie White and Millie Lammoreaux) or simply self-destructive (Margo Channing)

Those are all great examples of women "of a certain age" being cast in crazy-good crazy roles. The time was that "hag horror" was pretty much the only roles older actresses would get, but at least they found work!

I think you can add 'The Canyons' to that list.

and A Woman Under the Influence of course.
