How did he know which room? (ending spoilers)

SPOILERS ABOUT THE LAST SCENE IN THIS POST

How did the main character know which hotel room the inspector was going to?

I liked everything about the movie except this. This to me might be a huge plot hole that turns the movie mediocre instead of good if it can't be reasonably explained somehow.

You know as soon as the inspector says he wishes the dead could come back to life that George will and then kill him - which is a great idea, but to have it happen in the hotel is ridiculous. These zombies seem slightly smarter than in other films, but to know the room number and be able to get into the room is impossible never mind him getting there undetected. If it had been in the hospital a few hours later it would been a classic ending.

I just assumed zombies retain some sort of memory from their past life. The last place where Gregory remembers staying is the hotel, so he instinctually goes back there. And perhaps the inspector also stayed in the same room Gregory stayed in. It's all a bunch of assumption and bothered me a bit as well.
