Brain/eyeball scene

So I downloaded Deranged before I even knew it was widely available on DVD. My question is, the film looks pretty polished as far as film quality goes, however in the scene where Ezra Cobb is removing the eyeballs and brain from the head, it goes from crisp mastered film print, to something reminiscent of super 8 film. Very scratchy and distorted. I'm not complaining, because to me it adds an artistic angle to the film, even if that wasn't intended. The only thing I can think of happening, is the film was released on DVD by MGM with the eyeball/brain sequence cut, but whomever created the downloadable version re-added the scene from a VHS before film was mastered digitally. Any thoughts?

Also it was in the VHS released here in the US back in the 80s or 90s. The VHS also had an interesting doc on Ed Gein.

The eyeball scene is available to see on a trailer for Deranged on YouTube. The brain scooping scene is included in the Tom Savini featurette on Blue Underground's Deathdream DVD.

The "eyeball" scene! The "brain scooping" scene!!!

I've had the German "30th Anniversary Collector's Edition" (written in English along the top of the slipcase) for I don't know how long... but like so many of my DVDs, I haven't even removed the seal yet. I was just looking at it (the cover) today, came here and... hmmm... tempted!

The missing gore footage in Deranged is in bad shape and the use of it in the German DVD is, apparently, extremely jarring.

No it's not. It looks fine on the new UK Bluray from Arrow. The cheapskate German distributers just didn't want to spend any money restoring it for their dvd release.

Hidyho!

I was talking about the German DVD. I've got the Arrow Blu of Deranged, and you're right, it looks fine on there.
