Deranged is the BEST

telling of the Ed Gein story to date. WORLDS better than the BS versions of his story being hacked out today. If you liked TCM or films of the era in general, take advantage of the fact that this film is again available.

I got "Deranged" on DVD, which it was a double feature with "Motel Hell". Which i bought recently for a cheap price, since it`s out of print! I really liked the film, Robert Blossoms (Best known for playing mysterious old men, he played memorable supporting roles like from "John Carpenter`s Christine" and "Home Alone") gives an funny, bizarre, creepy and brillant performance. Which Blossoms really makes this obscure film memorable, especially the unusual narration in the movie works extremely well. At least in "Deranged" unlike "Ed Gein" (Which i do have it on VHS). You get to know how the lead character feels.

I also have the ulimate edition of "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" on DVD, which it`s one of my favorite horror movies. There`s a reason why Hollywood are fascinated with the true-life tale of Ed Gein. Which it was insipred in other movies like "Psycho" and "The Silence of the Lambs".

great version for sure and Roberts Blossom is brilliant as Ed/Ezra. That performance deserves an Oscar, even though it's not from the type of film that gets such attention

What this one has that almost all others lack, is the bleak, dismal and depressing atmosphere of the isolation that Gein lived. It's the only film based on him that looks like you are watching a documentary of his life. Of course, the cheesy narrator is pretty goofball, but still this film is gritty and sick.

One of my all time faves. Too bad the DVD release is edited.

I just got the Deranged/Motel Hell DVD, it's still easily available.I'm looking forward to watching Deranged for the first time, after wanting to for years.I know the MGM DVD is the edited theatrical version but apparently the cut "brain removal" footage exists in the Tom Savini featurette on Blue Underground's Deathdream DVD.

Give me TCM any day. It has all the energy, atmosphere and tension that the dreary Deranged is lacking.

The double-feature DVD containing this and "Motel Hell" is a genuine treasure. I'm thinking of buying another copy, just in case.

Yes, this movie is absolutely incredible. I loved every moment of it. Ezra's mom was one of the best characters I've ever seen in a horror movie and had some golden quotes ("The wages of sin is syphilis, gonorrhea... and DEATH!")
