Creepiest scene in movie history...

...I think was the scene where Mary walks into the bedroom, scans the corpses, and then makes eye contact with Ez, who's wearing body parts (skin on his face and hair as a wig). He suddenly starts cranking an old-time music maker, laughing hysterically all the while. My question is this: did he expect Mary to come in eventually, so he could trap her? I know the town was probably far away, but some people would have said, "screw this," and started walking. Did he not take this into account? Whatever, these aren't things you dwell on. Awesome scene.

I agree- that WAS extremely creepy. She then realizes the full horror of her situation.

I agree 100%. That scene was done exceptionally well--one of the creepiest ever.

Do you think Ezra went inside, changed into the skins and then just sat and waited for her to walk in? Or do you think he was so far out there by this point that he wasn’t aware that she was still waiting outside and that he was just going about his daily routine with the skin face and music box? I got the impression he might have been asleep when she first walked into the room and when he realized she was there, sprung to life with the music box. I guess the scene felt like it was supposed to be an intentional setup.

I supposed that they were in such a remote area that she would eventually wander into the house looking for him, even though it does seem to me that she could have just gone to sleep in the truck.

I agree. That was a very creepy scene. It was the best part of the entire movie in my opinion.

I couldn't agree more. I re-watched this great, underrated movie last night after a couple of years, or so, and I had forgotten that creepy scene, so it took me by surprise! It was really scary since the very moment Mary got off the truck and decided to walk inside the house, and then that climax...

I hadn't watched this in almost 3 years so I'd forgotten most of it and it was like watching the film for a first time again. That scene is still the highlight of the movie for me. All I can say is this movie was even better than I remember and I won't be waiting so long to watch it more times.
