The narrator added magic to this movie

I saw a few comments and reviews about Deranged, one of my all time favorite horror movies.

Many discussed -as they see it- the unnecessary presence of the narrator in this movie, but for me, he added an amazing magical touch, it was so well done that did not drive my attention from the movie and it definitely did not lessen my engagement with it at all, But as a matter of fact the opposite, it added some magic and uniqueness! and in the scene in Ezra's Mom bedroom the narrator's closing for that scene was so damn scary, I felt that someone popped out of the TV screen! so the narrator was an important part of this unique horror movie and its a nice touch by the directors Jeff Gillen and Alan Ormsby.

What do you think?

He did make it seem more like a documentary. His touch helped to keep reminding us that this story was true and that the grotesque events of the film actually happened. I do think he added a touch of realism to it.

And he disappears when the movie gets deadly serious, until the end, at which point there's nothing to snicker about. It's one of the many wonderful things that makes this one of the most underrated, unheralded independent films ever made.

Excellent point.

It was an interesting creative decision. I quite liked it.

reply

I don't think the narrator really added anything.
