Tucson suburban sprawl

any Arizona residents on this board? I bet some of you have interesting thoughts about the depiction, in this film, of Tucson "desert sprawl," at a fairly early stage... not THAT early, but things in 1974 were certainly not as bad as they are now.

If you start googling Tucson sprawl, growth, population, water, etc, it gets pretty scary to read what comes up.

You are toast, my toasty friend.

I laughed when Jainchill talks about how everyone in Tucson is safe because everyone carries guns. Tucson had a low crime rate in the 70s when almost eveeryone who lived there was a rancher, a hippie, or a military man, but there is plenty of gang violence and other crime in Tucson now in spite of the guns.

And yes, Tucson is not a well-planned city. Of course, if you want to talk about desert sprawl, the Phoenix metropolitan area is even worse.

I sort of miss the ultra-Western types like Jainchill, though. They're a bit ridiculous, and I never saw anyone drive a car with bull's horns, but there were quite a few pretty colorful Jainchill-esque characters hanging around Arizona through the '80s.

I lived there, it's is easier to get around then Phoenix. But yeah it's a sprawling.. I still carried there and felt safe!

IMDB as of late, sold out and became like City Data and about.com, worthless bureaucrats.

If Jainchill's development was a real constructed neighborhood, I've wondered if to this day it's a well-established place and never lost its value, since he didn't believe in the tract home style neighborhood, but one that conformed to the land.
