Did Stephen also escape from the asylum? He seems to have run down and killed the man by the phone box. But there is no explanation of who the phone box man was . Also at the end there is shown the caption under Stephen's press photo saying he is in danger. But how could the newspaper have got his photo , and how did they know he was in danger? This part of the plot seems a bit weak.

No, he had escaped from anywhere. But he was a bit of a pervert regarding women, but he was not a killer.

The police probably had his photo on file, maybe if he had committed motoring offences in the past. Call it a mug shot.

The newspaper knew he was in danger because the old man and the biker lads had reported to the police him being with the escaped mental patient woman.
