... tells the story of Joey Gallo, and was released in 1976 (after the movie) on the album "Desire". One line in the song says "Tell 'em it was Crazy Joe." A very cool story song on the same disc that contains his Ruben Carter song, "Hurricane".
Hurricane, another good song, is about an innocent man and truly moving and not mockingly sung.

I think he's was guilty. I also think he may have killed those people simply because they were white. That he and his fellow murderers were upset over the death of another black person, so they when out hunting for some whites to kill for revenge.
“Wait a minute, wait a minute. You ain’t heard nothin’ yet!”
Ex-New York Doll Johnny Thunders covered Dyalan's "Joey". His version was about 2 1/2 minutes instead of 10 or so as Dylan's was.
Johnny cuts out certain details for expediency's sake, teeling the whole bit about Joey Gallo befriending blacks by saying simply, "messing 'round with some coloreds, they said, Boy... you're doing wrong"
It's a silly, but fun, version, and also a good example of why one should avoid using heroin.
