Peter Boyle

Its quite sad that Peter Boyle has passed away and this gem of his is so hard to find on DVD. It needs a proper release, a pity the studios can't get their act together as a Boyle commentary would have been terrific for this film.

Agreed!!! It ticks me off that some of these great movies from the 60's & 70's have not been released on DVD. Example: It took them waaay too long to finally release "Cisco Pike" and "Save The Tiger" on DVD... both amazing films.
Hey.. they released "Joe" on DVD.. why not "Crazy Joe"? Boyle was brilliant in both!

I doubt that Peter would have done a commentary on this film.

I was surprised that he pulled it off. I still remember him as Young Frankenstein.

Boyle doesn't really look much like the real Joe Gallo. Haven't seen the flick so can't opine on his performance. Gallo wasn't bald. Some of the later pictures of Gallo show his hair thinning. His prison pictures shows He had blond, somewhat curly hair. He had a mole on the left side of his face. He looked more like Vic Morrow or Eli Wallach from the 1950's. He liked to wear dark sunglasses and fedora hats. His favorite movie was Kiss of Death and he could mimic Tommy Udo's voice and recite long passages of dialogue from the movie. He became a somewhat celebrity hanging out with writers, actors, and other entertainers near the end of his brutal life. He was dinning with Jerry Orbach and his wife the night he was shot down.
