Anything like The Conversation... but more modern?

The first things to come to mind are 2 TV series... Person Of Interest and Mr. Robot.

Any other recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

LOL, good call.

it's still a good film.

Blow Out comes to mind. Not much more modern that this but y'know..

reply

Good choice.

reply

IMO, Blow Out is more similar to Blow Up thematically.

reply

Oh, certainly. Blow Out is most likely directly inspired by Blowup, as is The Conversation. They make for a good thematic trilogy.

reply

Yeah, more modern, because just think how much better it would be with smartphones in everybody's hands!

Munich gets into spies and paranoia really well, so that might appeal to you.

The Lives of Others is set in the past, but more modern and it's excellent. It's about a wire-tapper in East Germany during the Cold War (obviously, given "East Germany").

That's all I've got for now, but if I think of anything else, I'll let you know. I haven't personally seen a lot of spy movies with heavy paranoia emphasis in the modern era.

This might sound weird at first but The Conversation actually reminded me a lot of The Ring. The protagonist gets involved in an analog recording because it might lead to someone's death, winds up misinterpreting who the guilty party is, and the person who ends up getting killed is not who she thinks. The Ring also feels like it takes the creepy vibe from the end of The Conversation and extends it to the whole movie.
