The conscience of a wiretapper


Almost forty years old and the theme of the movie is amazingly current. Do you people think Edward Snowden has seen this movie?

You know, I was thinking the exact same thing.

Here's a paraphrased quote in a letter from the FBI sent to senator Rand Paul from earlier last month,

"Customs and Border Patrol have considered equipping its fleet of domestic predator drones with non-lethal weapons and eavesdropping equipment to pick up on phone calls on the grounds below for surveillance."

It's like The Conversation updated for the 21st century.

Limit of the Willing Suspension of Disbelief: directly proportional to it's awesomeness.

It'll always be current. People have always spied on each other, and now that the technology exists for electronic surveillance, they only do so more effectively. Once that technology has been developed, it's just going to keep being used and improved upon. It's a pretty disturbing thing to think about, actually.
