Where is this island?

Is there any actual such island off of South Carolina?

reply

The term 'low country' is accurate as many coastal areas are described as such. The island is actually Daufuskie. See the Wiki link:

I accompanied a college boyfriend to Beaufort, SC and Lady's Island for a teaching job interviews in the mid-80's. This was before the Resorts came and people were taxed off their land in order to have the resorts built. The area is very developed with million dollar houses, resorts etc. and looks totally different now.

Oh, thank you. :) Interesting...you're a teacher? That's a shame, to tax people from their land, in my opinion. I bet it's exotic.

Back in the early development stages of the island, it was actually owned by International Paper. At this point, it is still being developed, however, the new residents on this island must adhere to strict building codes, and the residents that are there are trying to keep as much of the island in tact as possible...they don't want any overbuilding like on Hilton Head. A good portion of the island is still undeveloped, and there are are old buildings that have been saved and held as historical marks. There are only a few islands that have escaped the real estate overbuilding.....One island was donated by a family it as a bird sanctuary. And most of the low country islands are havens for turtles, which make these islands so desirable.

(This movie was not even filmed in SC.....!)

Filming actually took place on St Simons Island and Brunswick, GA. Also beautiful places.
