DVD problem?

As of February 2007 the dvd of Conrack still seems to be unavailable.
Does anyone know the story behind this?
It seems to have been promised for a long time now...

The DVD is currently in production. Look for it early next year.

Wootwootwoots, could you give us more info / tell us what you know about a possible release of this movie on DVD? I'm debating buying an expensive out-of-print VHS copy, but would much prefer to wait for a DVD if there really is hope. Thanks!

It sickens me that I can get "Cherry 2000" but I can't get this.

I'm with you isotop235...why is all the crap available, but many fine films such as this STILL aren't available on DVD. Come on Hollywood, let's get with it! Lemme see, no Region 1 of Kafka, The Flim Flam Man, Don't Give Up The Ship, The Count of Monte Cristo (1975 TV version) etc., etc., etc.. And what get's me is up at the top of IMDB's link to Amazon, it shows there is a DVD available, but when you click on it and go to Amazon it says "This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer" !?! What the hell?
Does anyone have info on a release for Conrack on DVD? I looked on ebay and there is a VHS tape of this going for $320 or more! Come on!

On the weekend, I just watched a great 2.35:1 print on DVD-r.

Great picture and sound. It's from Fox channel.

It's true, I really don't understand why this still hasn't been put on DVD officially. Most of the music is now, I believe, in public domain, so music rights shouldn't be the issue.

Personally, all around I think the acting is great, even by the kids, who've probably never acted in anything before.

Paul Winfield's always good in pretty much anything he does, although it would have been nice to have seen more scenes with him.

I was just watching my homemade DVD of a bad (previously used/probably a former rental) VHS copy. I look forward to seeing this film restored and digitized with interviews, commentary, historical documentary, and a picture quality that is at least as clear as the original screen version. I'm not sure what the issues are re: the obstacles to a DVD release. But I hope they get resolved. Maybe Mr. Conroy could use his influence to move 20th Century Fox (or the present owner) to produce a DVD that I know all of us would purchase. I saw at thepiratebay.org a version of this film in .avi format that is only 733 MB in size. While this is much smaller than my homemade DVD (which took two DVDrs to record the entire movie) the quality looks pretty good on my computer. This version appears to be a wide screen version recorded off of TCM. But it has foreign language caption text. And I guess it's not exactly legal to download this version, but we really don't have many choices for acquiring this great film.

As of July, 2012, 20th Century Fox Cinema Archives began releasing made-on-demand videos. Hopefully they will get around to this one soon. It might help to contact Fox and suggest this title. (http://beta.foxconnect.com/contacts or 877-369-7867).

Some unrealistic seller called International Cheapbooks (???) has a copy listed on amazon for almost $4700! Get real.

Just thought I'd mention that I just now contacted by telephone the FoxConnections cinema archives that is mentioned at the end of this thread, and they still do not have CONRACK, nor did she see any indication that it's even considered to become available. crap.

"Conrack" is available in English, wide-screen and with excellent image quality on a Japanese release by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
