deleted scene on DVD ?

Does anyone else remember this scene?

Claudine is in the living room doing the little girl hair and the kids are asking question about their fathers.

One child asked about their dad and Claudine says all your dads (were good looking or Fine) something like that.

She does not talk bad about the fathers to her kids. I believe she states that she loved them all.

Some one please help me out. I could have sworn this scene was in the movie. When I look at my DVD it is not there.

I know I didn't make it up.

I remember that!! As a matter a fact I believe she says "All your Daddies were good looking Ni**as" I used to laugh at that scene. Dihann Carroll & James Earl Jones did their thing in this movie!!

I sure don't remember any scene like that in the movie.

I Love....ME!!!!

reply

yes...it was in the movie though :-) I recall it.

I remember seeing this movie on its original release. Don't remember the scene in exact detail (that was a long time ago, after all & I haven't seen the movie since), but your description sounds familiar and feels very accurate.
I can also imagine idiot studios removing it from the dvd.

reply

Wow, could they actually have cut it for the DVD release???

reply

no I never saw that scene.

I have Claudine on DVD and VHS, and those scenes are not on neither one. I absolutely love Claudine as it's my favorite movie. I would be interested in seeing those deleted scenes. Where did you see those scenes? Was it on TV? If you can get a copy of those deleted scenes please let me know.

I remember the scene, Uniquele. She was doing the youngest girl's hair. And the oldest girl was giving her s**t about the men she had been with. She accused her of having four husbands and Claudine said, "I had two husbands. One of them was your father. That was a fine n*****." And the other girls ask about their fathers and she says, "They were all fine." And there was another scene with James Earl Jones where she was discussing the fathers of her children and who they were. I was expecting those scenes of the DVD and they were not there. I was pissed. Why they cut these scenes out? Who knows?

I read this thread as I was watching what I recorded from FMC. That scene was not in this version. It did sound familiar to me although I saw the movie primarily in the 70s and I wouldn't rely on those memories. IMDB says the film is 92 minutes long but 95 in Germany (of all places). Maybe it's on the German DVD? I love this movie and was glad to see it again after so long.

Yes, there was a scene where Claudine is combing the baby's hair, listens to the oldest daughter berating her for accepting the date w/ Rupe & then comments on how attractive each of the kids' fathers were. Perhaps in the spirit of political correctness that & several other key scenes were edited from the home viewing release, in a misguided effort to project a 2010-2011 sensibility onto a series of 1974 issues.

Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for

If it isn't on the DVD (which would be labeled if it were modified as such), it was probably a deleted scene added to the TV broadcast version for time purposes. Many Hollywood films have TV versions that are edited differently with additional scenes so that they can be sold to run in a certain time block with commercials.

Also, any home media version of "Claudine" was released before 2010. The DVD was released in 2002.

OMG! I have been trying to find the text of that scene for an article on Black relationships. Yes! It was definitely there. The scene begins with the youngest girl waving her head about and the oldest daughter, Charlene saying that her boyfriend has asked her to marry him. To which Claudine responds: "Well tell me when the wedding is so I can make plans not to be there." Charlene goes through this whole dialogue about love, Black men not being able to support families, and her associating the way her mother yanked and pulled at her hair with feeling ugly. It ends with Claudine mocking her, "You trying to tell me that I made you feel ugly and that's why you wanna run off and marry the first dude that comes along?" Such a powerful, missing scene and I have not been able to find it in the last two years!
