I heard an "elton john vibe" as well in several places in the movie. (it is nice to know it was not just me) Some of the instrumental reminded me of "60 years on" and the "Greatest Discovery" both off the self-titled album Elton John from 1970. [I didn't really think of "Burn down the Mission"]

It did not seem so much as close versions, but of similarity in the instruments and effects, especially of the beginnings of the songs.

I had a definite Elton John vibe as well, and I was sure I almost heard "Burn Down the Mission" at least once. More than anything, though, this reminded me of the highly orchestrated "Friends" soundtrack Elton released in 1971.
