imdb says that the normal version is 91 minutes, and the US version is 74 minutes. I got my DVD through netflix and it was 86 minutes, it's the release that has the plumber on it also. Anyone know if there's an american DVD release that has the 91 minute version?
shareThe version showing on the IFC is 87.5 minutes. I checked my 1984 Columbia VHS copy, and it was 88 minutes, but on the box, it said "approx. 91 minutes." I didn't have time to compare the two versions closely, but perhaps the music over black screen at the end ran a little longer on the VHS, or perhaps the 30 sec. difference is just error in the VHS tape counter. Now, why your DVD would be a minute and a half shorter, I don't know. Are you just going by what is printed on the box? If so, you should check the actual length, using the DVD player's display. But, I am thinking that the "91 minutes" is an error, or perhaps there was something going on with a PAL>NTSC conversion, but I don't think that's likely.
shareHard to believe an American edit of an original 91 minute film would reduce it by almost 20%. I guess the distributors felt there was a lot of padding.🐭
