Mad Max: Fury Road connection

In 'Fury Road,' there are a gang of desert bandits called 'Buzzards.' All of their vehicles are covered in spikes, just like the iconic VW bug in 'The Cars,' including an excavator lorry. And, when the lorry appears on-screen and starts attacking the protagonists, it makes animal growling noises, just like 'The Cars.'

I think that's too much of a coincidence not to be an homage/nod to 'The Cars That Ate Paris.'

What's anybody else think of this theory?

It’s more than a theory. I saw a documentary once about early Australian cinema and George Miller said there would be no Mad Max without this film.
