Sherrif Roy

He was supposed to be the "sadistic sheriff", but I found myself rooting for Vic Morrow's character in this movie, he seemed like a troubled guy 'cos of his family's death and wasn't really a dirty cop in the same way that, say, Ned Beatty in White Lightening was

I certainly wouldn't root for a sheriff that harasses people for driving 2-3 mph over the speed limit and murders people for speeding.

reply

I wouldn't exactly root for him, though it's quite explicitly shown that he isn't just a madman; he has a reason for his pathology. He's just in need of some counselling; some therapy; some calming drugs. Could happen to us all.

I liked that Vic Morrow's character wasn't some one dimensional heavy. There was a method to his madness, which in turn made him more human and worthy of some sympathy from the viewer.

Totally agree. If he'd just been a bad guy, that would have made the film a bit of a dud. It's because you get a (fairly poignant) glimpse into his personal life that he seems so much more rounded out as a character.

...just so I could catch Vic Morrow's attention. I would not mind having him coming after me.

Except he would not try to run me off the road.

I'll always love you,Vic Morrow
