BANNED IN GERMANY????????

Does anybody know why???

reply

That is because of the ridiculous censorship we have here. One prosecutor along with a judge can decide whether the majority is allowed to watch or not. Based on ยง131 of the criminal code films like "phantasm" or "halloween 2" are also banned in their uncut version. As I said: RIDICULOUS and useless, because thanks to the internet and more liberal countries in europe you can watch every single one of these film.

From what I have seen the German censors are more concerned with gore/violence, and less concerned with sex/nudity than those in the US. It is kind of funny to go to a German video store and see a lot of skin on the dvd covers for anyone to see, but horror movies with a 17 rating are often locked in a box away from the pubic eye.

Really? Gore and Violence? In this film. Yeah, violence but gore? Come on. I watch a lot more gory movies than this one. Little blood is not gory. Look at Dead Alive. Way more gore than this and even Hellraiser and Hellbound is way more gory than this one. This should of been rated PG-13 in USA. That is how tame this movie is. Germany is dumb.

I am a gore watching freak!!!

If it don't have it, it isn't worth the watch.

Released in 1974. NO internet. UK (video nasties) and France also banned movies then.

If I remember the cut German version correctly, this was because of the scene where several templars murder one of the girls. I do not know why this particular scene was banned, but I guess it was because the victim was a woman. Women are generally portayed unfavorably in this movie, so, maybe, this scene was just too much.

It was just a random act of one german state attorney who happens to hate horror movies. Problem in Germany is that ONE state attorney can actually team up with onle ONE Judge and ban whatever they want. They even banned Part 4 now as this was released on a double feature tape with part 3.

Germany is ridiculous when it comes to censorship. They spent 8 years in court about The Evil Dead and discussed the fact if Zombies are human or "nearly human"......glad I left the country...:-)
