This reminded me of a Jim Thompson novel.....

Never really been mentioned, but it's got a tyranical crime lord, a pair of queer hitmen, a severed head, a down on his luck alcoholic, a floozy broad. Has all the hallmarks of a really great Jim Thompson novel. Discuss.

I'll echo that statement. I've been on a Jim Thompson kick lately. He has a ton of books that would make great movies; it's a shame that there's only been a couple that really turned out well. Anyone who likes Thompson and hasn't read them yet, I highly, highly recommend his two-part "memoirs," Bad Boy and Roughneck.
