were hit men gay?

were the two hit men played by bob webber and gig young supposed to be gay? i thought there were strong implications of it in the film.

reply

Saw this movie for the first time last night... I picked that up right away. Similar to the hit man duo from "Diamonds Are Forever."

reply

yes; i thought the underlying theme was there.

In the seventies, there was another movie which had a similar dynamic. In Knockabout, two of the bad guys are a gay couple.

reply

I saw this for the first time last night with two friends- one who also had never seen it and the other had a couple of times. We all agreed immediately that although these guys were hard, psychopathic killers they definitely were a homosexual couple.

The early scene where one knocks the attractive, soliciting prostitute out cold was just simply excessive.

wow, that never even occurred to me. I thought this was just another "is <insert name here> gay?" joke thread but after reading the posts and thinking about it I have to agree that it was certainly inferred. interesting. I thought the film was just OK but with some editing it could have been great.

there needs to be a blog post about BAD ASS GAY HIT MEN with these two on the list as well as (as mentioned) the DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER dudes and last but not least

JE FREEMAN from MILLER'S CROSSING

I saw the title of this thread while I was watching the movie for the first time and after seeing it I agree with your assumption.

Most definitely strongly implied. Interestingly, in the trivia for The Wild Bunch, it says that L.Q. Jones and Strother Martin had a back story for their characters including a gay relationship between them, so this is not the first time Peckinpah included a gay couple, though each time you have to read between the lines somewhat.

reply

Yeah that's still clearly implied in the film as is.

reply

They must be, because i was watching the movie and i thought the same thing during their last scene...
