I wonder why they even filmed it in English?

They should of just stuck to Italian.... since it is an Italian film!

Although filmed in Italy, I believe the money came from U.S. investors, so it would be considered an American film. The writer/director was American, but due to Italian law, only one American actor could be in the film. Morrissey admitted that it makes no sense for all the characters to have different accents, but he liked the way it sounded.

Because Joe Dallesandro couldn't even do an Italian accent, much less Italian all together.

They didn't want to deprive the female audience of Joe's pretty ass.

yeah, and I watched it (with many other films)without subtitles to improve my listening comprehension skills in English... little did I know

The accents are cool (specially Udo's character and his servant). I think it gives the film a certain charm.
Bela Lugosi had a strong accent too, he was great. Could it be some kind of reference in this film?

Because he was the most famous, Lugosi's accent is most people's reference to what an authentic Transylvanian accent sounds like. When playing Dracula, most actors are likely channeling Lugosi.
