You couldn't make this movie today


Most of the actors are dead and Hollywood is very reluctant to cast dead actors. The classic western as a genre has declined greatly in cultural relevance, so doing a satire on it wouldn't pack the same impact. And the movie already exists so there'd probably be some sort of copyright issues.

Yeah, the guy who re-did "The Producers" in 2005 had a really hard time with the copyright issues because the guy who did the movie originally in 1967 was being a real jerk to him.

Too funny. But I disagree with the "classic western as a genre" as an argument, IMO that's a legitimate argument. I doubt Sidney Poitier was ever considered for the first Magnificent Seven (remake.)
