Agreed.

Like comparing very fine wine to me. Both are masterful to me in their own way.

You'll sometimes hear people say Halloween borrowed from Black Christmas. Carpenter has spoken about this, and Bob Clark himself said more than once he only gave John a small seed, and Halloween was all John. The two films are both horror films, slasher films, based around holidays. Beyond there, both are fantastic on their own. Certainly compared to much of the horror garbage of today, and the godawful remakes of both films.

Personally, Black Christmas scared me alot more. I love both movies but in terms of being scary, Black Christmas. But in terms of rewatchability, it's gotta be Halloween.

Exactly right. It's really hard to compare them because they're both masterful and excellent in their own ways. But what cannot be denied is that Halloween was definitely inspired by Black Christmas.

I like both. However, if forced to choose, I'd pick Black Christmas because it scares the crap out of me. Halloween doesn't scare me anymore because I've watch it for so long since I was a kid that the fear is gone. I don't see BC often and when I do, I'm terrified.

I must warn you. I'm very susceptible to flattery.

I just watched Black Christmas for the first time. I thought it was great but didn't find it that scary. I was expecting to it to be a lot more frightening after reading some of the posts on here. Think it had some very funny moments... The voice over the phone was eerie and never heard anything like it in a movie. Thought that was very original .. overall a very good movie but I think halloween is a lot darker.

I liked Halloween because it had better music. The music did it (kind of like Jaws, The Exorcist, Psycho) for me in making it more scary and foreboding.
