No that isn't it. I respect you opinion but I have to strongly disagree about it being boring and not being a horror movie. I thought it was very suspenseful and scary. It is obviously a horror movie.
Agree. BC has a nice creep factor, with it's dark rooms and lurking shadows. I think today's audiences are more drawn to gory and disturbing films which this movie is not. BC is more comparable to movies like Halloween (1978), and the early 70's Italian giallo genre.
It's a small-budget quirky horror flick that is much better than it should be thanks to director Bob Clark's direction, nicely done twist ending and camera work. Unfortunately, due to the hundreds of slasher films that have followed, BC does show it's age. But it's still a nice little film to enjoy occasionally.
There are repeated scenes of a dead body wrapped in plastic in the attck, we see multiple murders, the phone calls are creepy. And there is the scene where you see Billy's eye.
This film is a horror film. It seems so obvious i don't know how it would be questioned.
"America isn't ready for a gay, mexican chicken sandwich" - Poultrygeist
plastic wrap and stab with glass unicorn is only on screen killing scene most of killscene is off screen the phone calls is not creepy at all for me it very hilarious and most stupid scene in this movie billy eye is scary but it still boring this movie is how boring horror film should make.
... or maybe there are people that were simply NOT bored by it? It all comes down to different tastes really - and I can respect the fact that you weren't very impressed with this film. However, just because you didn't enjoy it, that doesn't mean everyone else shouldn't either... nor is it appropriate to excuse it with the old and tired nostalgia argument.
Neither was I. I wasn't born until almost 20 years after this movie was released and yet it is one of my favorite. I watch it in the days leading up to Christmas every single year and never get tired of it. I just love the suspense and atmosphere.
This is exactly how horror should be made. I mean, Halloween drew from this movie. It's true. The POV images, the musical score, the lack of blood needed the lack of a big body count, being scared from the things you DON'T see instead of the cheap scares.
It has it all. The atmosphere is as good as any horror movie out there. The unfortunate thing is that audiences today are so impatient and want gore and a high body count. They can't appreciate a more intellectually sound movie like this one that relies on suspense.
Look at Psycho, Jaws, Halloween, etc. All of those movies were done with a "building up suspense" moment. I wish more horror movies followed this mantra.
that's ALL bs, just bull. There are a lot of good horror movies that don't have any gore. or jump scares. I love how to "Go to" excuse for bad movies is either "you didn't get it" or "You only want Jump scares and gore " I find that pretty silly actually.
Jaws is better than this movie, Halloween is better than this movie, Texas Chainsaw massacre is a lot better than this movie. The fact that you compare this to those is baffling. Just because you happen to like this, or feel nostalgia, doesn't meant it is that great. Nostalgia is an incredible thing. it really changes your perspective on things.
I first saw this movie in 2001. I was 20 then. I don't have nostalgia for this movie from an old-time perspective. I saw Psycho, Jaws, Halloween and Friday the 13th all before this one. This movie is just perfectly done from a suspense standpoint and it mirrors other great movies in that way.
LOL there many good proto-slasher and it better then this boring movie like blood and black lace, bay of blood, torso, texas chainsaw massacre etc. this movie is just boring and slow it not scary or frightening at all many people said phone call scene is creepy but i think it very stupid and hilarious most kill is off-screen only 2 on-screen kill.
