Rip off, but such a low rating is unfair!

The overall rating of three point something is incredibly unfair - even if this film is a glaring rip off of "The Exorcist". While it may be immediately comparable to this film, that should also be a way of seeing where it improves on the original. The doll sequence, and in my view the general pace of the film is actually superior to the Exorcist. I also think that the Rosemary's Baby "remix" - having a pregnant mother - is more interesting than the child that is possessed in the Exorcist.

There are some very original moments in this film though. The aforementioned doll sequence, the crazed bananna eating sequence - wonderful manic acting by Mills there, and the brilliant eye sequence - genuinely frightening.

Yes, this has hammy moments and can perhaps never be filmed as a view in it's own right, so from that viewpoint I accept that it will always be regarded as "lesser", but watched as a companion piece to the Exorcist, an unoffical follow up, this rewards on many levels.

The rip-off case was more about them making a possessed person look and act like the makers of The Exorcist imagined it would be like. They use similar make up and audio effects. It's more like they stole a character. Only Universal can use the Frankenstein monster with the bolts and flat top. Beyond the Door used the Warner Bros' Exorcist monster without permission. The WB also has excellent lawyers.

Lmao Are you freaking kidding me dude? Don't you know that almost every film (especially nowadays) inherently rips off of one or another, regardless if its intentional or not; half the time it is done without even being realized right away. I'm Sorry, not sorry but you're pretty much as retarded and corrupt as Warner Brothers is in its entirety with thinking that they literally own the entire possession genre, or the key scenes in The Exorcist, or for that matter, that they also had a legitimately good chance at winning their unbelievably stupid lawsuit. FÜCK your dumbass, FÜCK Warner Brothers, FÜCK their lawyers, and lastly, FÜCK The Exorcist. It is indeed a great film, especially from back in the day and for its time but admittedly, it is now genuinely overrated as hell. Intentional rip-off or not, I'd still rather watch this. Oops I almost forgot to mention that this also isn't the first time CORRUPT big-bully company Warner Brothers has pulled some retarded legal sh!t like this (since they genuinely have a bad habit of thinking that they can do pretty much whatever they want, no matter how ludicrous it is) , and of course, utterly & laughably FAILED at doing so. Go figure.

I am astonished that the rating is so low. As you said, some scenes from this movie are just as terrifying as The Exorcist in my opinion. It is one of my favorite horror movies of all time.

"Beyond The Door" is a classic.

If it doesn't "Rip-off" an American film, it can't be a true Italian Horror movie, anyway.

Most people aren't well-versed in what Italian film makers had to do to avail themselves of the American market in the 1960's and 1970's, nor do they comprehend the conventions of the genre. If you aren't interested in all of that, then you aren't going to put up with the slow, wonky narrative, nor are you going to care about the "atmosphere" and "color" that was so well-rendered by this movie, hence the low rating.

It's not for everyone, but it's a "10" for the kind of fans who love this kind of film.

Apart from some glaring aspects of Jessica's possession, Beyond the Door is otherwise very much unlike The Exorcist - in style, in tone, heck, even narratively speaking. The Antichrist, on the other hand, is much "truer" to Friedkin's picture. And let's not forget the Turkish scene-for-scene imitation, Seytan.

This movie is total nonsense. Not only is it a 01/10, but it is one of the worst out of all the 01/10s (from a list of mine of over 300 1970's horror films)... Blackenstein (1973) is a better movie. In fact, the only positive thing I can say about this movie is that it is a little better than Cathy's Curse (1977) and even arguably better than The Bermuda Triangle (1978).
