How the 'HELL' can this be an 'Exocist Rip-off'?

How can you idiots say its an "Exorcist Rip-off"? There isn't an EXORCISM in the whole damn movie! No self-doubting priest in sight! This is not a Catholic propaganda movie like the Exorcist was. Instead its about having an ugly secret in your life that comes to light when you least expect it. It has nothing to do with the Exorcist stupid premise of "is it mental illness, or is it real eeevil". I say stupid because I've never heard of mentally ill folks shape-shifting into pig-faced demons.

Beyond the Door is one of many Exorcist imitators of the early 70's, the producers of Beyond the Door even classify it as being a ripoff of The Exorcist. Although I will agree with you that this film really has nothing to do with exorcism, Beyond the Door is called a ripoff of The Exorcist, mainly because of Juliet Mills's demonic voice, her head spinning around and throwing up green pea soup. Warner Bros. went so far as to file suit aganist Film Ventures International to have this film pulled from theaters, even though it was making major box office money during it's short release, even spawning two unrelated sequels. So Beyond the Door kind of has both ways, although it has nothing to do with Exorcism, the scenes are very similar to The Exorcist.

Code Red is reportedly releasing a DVD of this in 2007.

the exorcist wasnt ABOUT the exorcism.or the exorcist. it was about faith and the impact of evil on not only the victim but her loved ones and those trying to help her.

I think it was influenced by Rosemary's Baby and the Exorcist.
The director was just inspired by these fims. I like it myself. Juliet Mills was pretty good in it. I watched it with my mother recently. She saw it years ago but forgot about it. She couldn't believe this was the elegant Juliet Mills, the professor's nanny, spewing out this vile evil! A great performance!

I think it's a fun, '70s drive-in movie, and it does use some elements of both ROSEMARY'S BABY and THE EXORCIST, even if it does not have an actual exorcism in it. (An exorcist doesn't have to show up for the film in order for a film to "rip off" THE EXORCIST. One of the central themes to THE EXORCIST was demonic possession, a theme not overly used in horror films until EXORCIST broke box office records. Let's face it, there were a LOT of horror films using that theme that would have never been made had it not been for THE EXORCIST.)

How can anybody say "Beyond the Door" is a rip-off of "The Exorcist"? Well, let's see . . .

Scenes with the possessed victim vomiting . . . CHECK!

A sweet natured person turning nasty and violent . . . CHECK!

Levitation scenes . . . CHECK!

Head turning 180 degrees . . . CHECK!

Beautiful face turning warty & ugly . . . CHECK!

Foul language . . . CHECK!

Foul language out of a little girl's mouth . . . CHECK!

Objects flying around the room . . . CHECK!

Doctors unable to explain what's happening . . . CHECK!

Demon calling out the name of the "exorcist" . . . CHECK!

As for the exorcism scene, I believe the scene where Dmitiri is to deliver the baby substitutes for the Roman Catholic ritual.

Sounds like a rip-off to me.

I get the impression dimitri_el_slayer's little crack about "Catholic Propaganda" was the one and only purpose behind his rant, if he couldn't have worked that bigotted remark in he wouldn't have said anything at all.
