10 yrs old voice of girl not actually 10?

did anyone think 10yrs old girl sounded 20? much 2 hip. anyway, this movie sucked

Maybe she's dubbed to sound like a hippie chick.

I'm pretty sure the kids are dubbed... their lips are hardly ever in sync and the voice of the girl sounds so much older. Her dialogue is pretty hilarious actually, I don't know who the writers intended it for :S every time she pops up she's all: "Hey maaan, dig this! You're tripping!"

I said this on You Tube yesterday, so I'm cutting and pasting the following from my YouTube comment (but without the expletives):

The kids' dialog, especially the girl's, is sinking this film and making it exasperating to watch. Did ya EVER hear anyone, especially a child, talk like that? They're trying and failing miserably to be 'hip' or perhaps funny. Instead, it's just embarrassing.

That dialog sounds something like Mystery Science Theatre 3K would reject as being too azzinine. (I LOVE that show. I miss it SO MUCH!)
Notice how all the girl's dialog is very obviously dubbed? That poor child probably had a truckload of trouble trying to say all that crap, and gave up. Can't say I blame her.

This movie is a mess. 2/10

Looking at the credits here, I think the kids were actually born and raised in Italy, so their English probably wasn't very good. Seemed like the father's voice was dubbed, too, in parts.

Chances are, the girl did not swear half as much (perhaps not at all) in the original Italian version. They probably added the profanity in the "dubbed" American version in order to guarantee a "R" rating. I could be wrong, just my "two cents."

It is, or was, a 10 year old girl. I used to do dubbing when I was a kid living in Rome. The girl who did the acting was Italian, but I did the voice. My parents had to give permission for me to swear. My brother and sister and I did the singing dolls, too.
Cut me some slack, I was 10 and had no acting experience. :)

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us, "angela-rickman!" I hope our comments about your performance didn't offend you. I have a few questions, if you don't mind. Did you do your dubbing along with Juliet Mills, your "movie Dad" and "Dimitri", or did the adult characters do their voice-work in separate studios/on other occasions? Did some of the scary scenes in the movie creep you out as a little girl? Last but not least, did you provide your vocal talents for other movies filmed in Italy? If so, what are the titles?

I was a kid, and did what I was told to do by the director, so I'm not offended. It is actually harder than it looks to try to get the words to fit the lips on screen while remembering the inflection and the lines. It was usually after school, and the studios were far from home, so sometimes I was already tired.
No, the dubbing was done in small loops, with one or two actors. Yes, the scary scenes creeped me out, but I only saw the ones I dubbed - I was too young to see the movie. In fact, I have never seen the whole thing.
I did a bunch of other ones, but can't remember many titles, other than Amarcord and YuppiDu.
