I don’t get it.

Why would they wait half a decade to edit these two TV shows into one movie?

I just finished watching it on TV and I thought the ending was a bit of an anti-climax. I’m guessing that there’s more story to follow.

Still, I enjoy the whole “Plant of the Apes” saga.

It's just like what they did with the Time Tunnel. Actually there are more Apes telefilms.

What TV shows? It says this was a made for TV movie in 1980

They just spliced a bunch of episodes of the 1974 TV series into several TV movies. Each movie consisted of two episodes.
