Something terribly wrong...

with the fact that duddy is obnoxious, completely out of it, and childishly annoying while Yvette sounds like a man.

Simcha, Uncle Benjy, the Boy Wonder and Lennie were perfectly cast though.

Personally I believe they are making a huge mistake by not putting out some money for special features such as audio commentaries of the actors and directors, many of whom are now alive and probably more than willing to do this important historical work.

I totally agree with you cooperw001, I hope somebody from the industry will read your suggestion before the actors dies. At least if they cannot put it on DVD, they should release it on blu ray.

reply

Would be nice if they put out a new version - bluray with bonus features -
for next year when Duddy turns 40.

Yeah, as much as I loved Dreyfuss's performance, I can't help but notice how he doesn't look very jewish. And yes, Yvette's man voice bothered me too. Other than that, I think the movie was very well done.

reply

Richard Dreyfuss is jewish. What does jewish look like anyway?

Micheline Lanctot's natural voice is very deep ("manly" is a way of putting it), and has got even more so with time, I believe.

"that duddy is obnoxious"
---------
And this wasn't the essence of the character?

reply

hey, hey, hey ... lol, yes Duddy was obnoxious, I started out wanting to like him but I didn't even cheer when he told the Boy Wonder off.

I liked it when Yvette told him (in her man voice) she never wanted to see him again.

Probably the most irritating thing that happens to a woman when she has a deep voice is when women flirt with you on the phone -- I wonder if that ever happened to Yvette.

Yvette was torn between Duddy's drive for success and his inconsiderate and sometimes vile self-involvement. She was different looking --sounding-- but I would hope she didn't get ripped off by Duddy because she had a good heart.
