Question about Movie (spoilers within)

I just viewed the movie without subtitles. I have a question.

At the end, did the father know he was making love to his daughter? At first it seemed that it was Nicola, but then it turned out to be Eugenia. The manner in which Eugenia sneaked away from the bed gave me the impression that Nicola wanted to keep the fact that it was her in the bed hidden from her father.

Also, at the end, when the father was looking at Nicola and Eugenia walking to school he bowed his head and the credits began to show, was that to be interpreted as regret for having sex with both his daughter and her friend?

BTW, imho, the mother got the worst of it, she ended up in a mental hospital with the knowledge that her husband may have had incestuous intentions toward their daughter.

No, the father though it was Nicola in bed with him. It was a trap.

Quite probably.

Yes. He regretted having sex with Nicola (and he realized he had sex with his daughter too).

Firstly, the film is somewhat ambivalent whether the father knew he had committed incest or not. Secondly, the mystery is, did Nicola and Eugenia cook up this plan or did Eugenia find Nicola in bed with her father, had a quick chat with her friend regarding her own desires, and replaced her in bed. To me, this makes more sense. Eugenia teased but was unable to break through her father's socialization regarding incest. In the end, she took advantage of the situation presented to her. I grant that the father's pensive stare as the two girls walk off to school together is thought provoking. He may have regretted having sex with Eugenia but certainly not Nicola. He seemed quite infatuated with her. Who could blame him?

I can't believe that Nicola would confide to Eugenia that she seduced her father nor can I believe Eugenia would confide in Nicola that she wanted the same. They were friends but also competitors. It is fairly unusual for two gorgeous and overwhelmingly sexual females to pair up since in reality they would squabble over the most desirable men. The usual scenario is that a somewhat plain-jane hooks up with a fox. Then they can be true friends since the competitiveness is taken out of the relationship.

Most sociologists will state that father/daughter incest is a universal societal taboo although this observer is of the opinion it happens all the time and this film portrays a scenario as to exactly how it can occur even without the twist ending. The father has usually been socialized against the practice whereby the daughter has not. She is acting in a normal fashion since her sexual desires are raging. From many daughters' perspective, what better man to have sex with than one's own father. He has loved, comforted, and provided for her all of her life and will continue do do so until he dies. He is the first man a daughter has ever loved and as she begins developing into a woman, is it not a logical as well as an emotional decision on her part to expand the relationship into a sexual one as well.

I'm not sure it's 100% certain he did sleep with Eugenie. Maybe it was Nicola, and during the night Eugenie swapped places with her. That would be just like something she would do, being into stories, lying about having sex, and going so far as to apply fake hickies just to make her father do something she hadn't.

I think he knew he was having sex with Eugenia, yes. But the two will probably never speak to each other about that. About Nicola, she probably understood the situation and did let Eugenia take her place.
