Amarcord Theme Song in Other Media?

I just sat down to watch Amarcord for the first time (something I have long been meaning to do as I loved 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita) and immediately recognized the song playing over the opening credits. I cannot for the life of me figure out where I had heard it before (as I had never seen the film) and its driving me nuts. Does anyone know what other films/shows/etc. have made use of this wonderful song? I tried in vain to find some sort of listing of Nino Rota's film scores used outside of their original films and its driving me nuts trying to connect the Amarcord theme to some other source that would explain its familiarity to me - I would greatly appreciate any help in arriving at an answer.

I of course must add that the film (as well as the score in general) is fantastic and I am definitely going to keep working my way through Fellini's catalog - and I wholeheartedly recommend Amarcord to anyone who happens upon this post and yet hasn't yet seen the film!

I also came here to find out where I have heard this song before and I spent an hour checking online racking my brain trying to figure it out. I could be wrong but I think I heard it on an SNL skit with Gilda Radner done in black and white where she talks to the camera saying good bye to a lover or something. Very art house like. Camera pans to a sad clown releasing a balloon with which the camera also follows with the music playing in the background. Again, I could be wrong because its probably been well over ten years since I've seen the skit but for some reason it's the only connection I can think of. I would really like some verification because I can't find that skit online for a confirmation.

I could have sworn that I posted here previously, looks like my post has gone the way of the dodo.

Anyway, I think I actually figured out where I know it from. It's an entirely odd source though - Honey I Shrunk the Kids. The beginning has the Amarcord theme. It must have put a worm in my ear that laid Dormant for decades until I saw this.

Holy crap, I forgot I posted on here trying to find out where I heard it and just googled "Amarcord Theme in other movies" and got this website, moviestack:

http://www.moviestack.com/posts/62874-amarcord-theme-song-in-other-media

It has my EXACT post from this thread on IMDB along with the two responses, but all 3 have completely different usernames of the posters.... WTF?!

Also, youre exactly right, its freaking Honey I Shrunk the Kids, but the repost from here on a different site with different usernames is creeping me out...

what the crap! that's weird as hell!

The other usernames are clearly not either of ours, but... I'm confused.

Anyway, how weird is that connection? Maybe the director was a big Fellini fan?

It felt great to figure it out, though. It's amazing how one tiny snippet can be that powerful and memorable. It's not even like the volume was even remotely loud during Honey, but it was clearly enough.
