What did you rate 'Airport 1975' (1974)?

This sequel to Airport is another all-star disaster pic, with Karen Black as a stewardess who has to fly a 747 after a small plane strikes the cockpit and leaves the pilots killed or disabled. I expected the first film to be slick and artificial; but the soap opera material was handled deftly and credibly and even had a few touching moments.

Airport 1975 is the movie I thought Airport would be. This is plastic entertainment with no genuine human interest. And I hate to say it, but the cross-eyed Black looks ludicrous in peril.

I gave this a 5. What did you rate this movie? And what do you think of it?

I also give it a 5. I think the original is so much better but this one is watchable. Heston and Kennedy overact a bit too much but I thought Karen Black was ok. Actually I thought the whole stewardess in peril flying the plane was a bit silly. I imagine if it came down to it a stewardess could probably fly the plane. Maybe not but it seemed kind of sexist in a way having the woman try to stay strong but be weak and have her lips quiver until her knight in shining armor comes to rescue the damsel.

You know, I've seen that scenario of a non-pilot having to pilot a plane many times, but I can't think of a single specific movie or TV episode. I'm sure the idea wasn't original to this film.

Anyway, it was fun to watch once, but not again.

I think that this movie is a disaster (no pun intended). But, this is bad. As a kid, I had no idea that the movie "Airplane!" was a spoof. Didn't take too long to figure it out because this is just some horrible stuff. Forget the acting for a second - could the freakin' MUSIC be any louder and more....sappy? Ugh...

I may be a bit spoiled by movies such as Transformers, Armageddon and even The Rock that have really cool music in the background. The 70s were the absolute bottom of the barrel when it came to the film scores. And before anyone freaks out, I am not referring to the mega-classics like Jaws, Godfather, Superman and Star Wars. I am talking about the run-of-the-mill hokey stuff like this movie. It was just on yesterday so that's why I am on the board here.

Ewww - the intrusive violins and such are haunting me right now...

1970s music is typically cheesy, often with a disco flavor to make it all the sillier. But my vote for the worst decade for film music is the 1980s with all those annoying electronic scores. Bleh.

Funny I don't remember how bad the score was for this film. But I'll take your word for it. I think I was too distracted by the acting and the script.

I gave it 7/10, upgraded from the 6/10 I assigned it a few years ago. This is, in many respects, a silly film from today's perspective, but I found it consistently entertaining, which is all I expected. And it improves on subsequent viewings.
