If only erotica NOW was as interesting as this film

I thought I'd watch this just to make fun at 70's porn/erotica and I was even getting ready for cheap laughs at big pubic hair and funny mustaches but instead I found an interesting and deep erotic film about sexual repression in suburbia. Of course you shouldn't expect realism, but the narrative is fluid, the scenes are well made and planned, and even if the writing has some flaws and some acting is a bit flawed, the movie is watchable and it's a nice piece of entertainment for men and women alike. Here you won't see or hear the typical porn-sitcom of nowadays but something more profound. Some of the hottest and steamy sex scenes are interlaced with sudden moments of emptiness and void, and sexual repression and blame to third parties because of this seems to be a recurrent theme. Anyway, Abigail Lesley is back in town and here to stay. Film: Three stars out of four. Erotic value: Four stars out of four.

The 70s were the best period for erotica especially where plot and concept are concerned. Porn was always more serious back then because they were made in a similar fashion like regular Hollywood movies although on a smaller budget. Those directors considered themselves every bit as valid as mainstream directors and took themselves seriously as artists. And many hoped to (and did) break into Hollywood as legitimate filmmakers. As well as some of the actors (Sylvester Stallone). Softcore especially enjoyed it's biggest success then because a hardcore movie could be altered to play late night at drive-ins because there was a storyline. Modern hardcore porn is often just a series of sex scenes strung together so its pointless to try to salvage and alter anything. Today softcore is mildly tolerated and put on late night cable. Hardcore fans liken it to decaffeinated coffee. My only complaint about 70s erotica is the lack of variety that we have now.

Today's porn is cookie-cutter, mass assembly garbage. As depicted in Boogie Nights, after the 70s, the porn industry no longer cared about artistic vision, quality and plot. They just wanted to use the new, easy-to-use video format to record sex scenes and quickly put them out for release the same day. Producers no long wanted to spend time and money concocting a storyline and building props and set pieces. Now all they need is two people having sex on camera in a discreet area and you have a product. Sometimes you don't even need two people. Female masturbation videos are popular. It's cheaper and faster and the profit margin increased 300%+ because even the old fans eventually fell in line with the promise of being able to watch their porn at home on vcr/beta machines instead of having to crowd into scummy and seedy theaters.

I've just started collecting older softcore and drive-in sexploitation from the 60s and 70s this year. There's some great stuff out there that still stands up against most modern porn. It's amazing how classic softcore made 30-50 years ago is so much more erotic and sexier than today's extreme porn that leaves little to imagination. Joe Sarno was one of the great pioneers. Many italian directors from the same era put out quality softcore.

Pornography tends to bore me, actually. Somebody said to me it's the main reason remote control batteries get drained faster. The dialogues of the so called stories are so terrible they don't bother fixing their sound. Regarding hardcore, nowadays the scene is lame, besides maybe X-art, but then again, tends to boredom. Sarno proved with this movie he can keep us entertained. May he rest in peace.

yeah , well said .. I guess that u r right .. I'm a big fan of softcore and erotic movies , I find it even more sexy thatn Hardcore movies .. and ur note 's accurate , want to add that the reason I guess is missing the Imagination and creativity for both director and writer ..

early in that industry u didn's have much techniques or facilities to use when u try to create a movie , u hv nothing more than ur self-creativity , so u 'd care alot about plot and about shooting angels and other tools ..

while now and with satellites and cable channels .. producers hv lot of spaces to fill so they 'll not care alot about the quality of the plot as long they show tons of nudity and fake-breasts girls .. that 'll help them financialy and 'll satisfy pervert seekers around the world .

while in 70's .. production of sweden as in example 'll only b available for swedish until it get distributed to other countries , so no need to make 100 movie a year ,, but now with open-skies world u hv to produce alot to satisfy the whole world ..

hope that u can create list of favourite erotic movies and share it .. I 'll be happy . btw my favourite director 's Tinto Brass .

Here's some of my favorites. If you have Neflix you can at least two of these and a lot more. Others you might have to go to Amazon but you can usually find them fairly cheap.

Prison Girls: This is great. I just found it on Neftlix. Features Ushi Digard and Candy Samples, a couple girls who were popular in the 60s and 70s softcore scene. Lots of nudity. Lots of big t!ts, nice asses and bush. I had a hard-on the whole time I was watchng it. (1972)

Housewife's Afternoon Delight: A housewife has an affair with a door-to-door salesman. This is a japanese movie I found on Neftlix. Very erotic. No matter how professional japanese people seem to present themselves in real life, don't be fooled. Japanese love porn and it is a big part of their society that they don't really hide from.

Au Pair Girls: Four sexy young foreign girls come to England as au pairs and quickly become quite intimate with their employers, This is the first softcore movie I ever remember seeing. It's still considered a classic. (1972)

The Defilers: Two guys kidnap a young girl and keep her in their basement as a sex slave. This was made in 1963. It's part of a genre what they used to call "roughies" back then. Sexploitation movies that mixed a bit of violence.

Sin in the Suburbs/The Swap and How They Make It: These are two more Joe Sarno movies from the 60s and are usually foiund as a double feature. I ordered these through Amazon. Well worth the money. I love the story and the look of the characters.

Spiderbabe: A erotic spoof on the Spiderman movie. This was very popular on cable about 10 years ago.

Thank you for the recommendations! Wish I could think of a good one but yeah, our friend here mentions Tinto Brass, a great italian director with a particular style. His last movie is Monamour (2005) and features the sexiest blonde I've ever seen on screen after Marilyn Monroe: Anna Jimskaia.
