Is this any good?

This seems to be one of the movies that was lost in the shuffle, and has now been rediscovered. It has a good cast and a famous director. The previous poster said it was better than Prime Cut, which I liked a lot. Is this worth watching?

I think it's very good. One of my favorites and definitely buried by an undeserved bad rep.

A strange and surreal gangster movie with some great action direction from Frankenheimer, it makes PRIME CUT look positively normal by comparison, as 99 is much more of an over the top comic book style mob movie. It's got a similar formula and fairly interchangeable characters -- and the Uncle Frank character from 99 is mentioned in PRIME CUT, so apparently it takes place in the same reality.

I saw it before PRIME CUT and it inspired me to track down most everything that Robert Dillon has written for the screen, which was no easy task. The guy went from Roger Corman to the AIP beach movies to William Castle to PRIME CUT, 99 and FRENCH CONNECTION II in the 70s. A very cool, underrated screenwriter due for some cult appreciation.

If you liked PRIME CUT it's definitely worth watching, especially for the underwater sequences that bookend the movie - those alone should have made it a noteworthy standout. For me, it's a minor classic.

The title sequence (with the guy being drowned) is STUNNING. You"ll never forget it.

I enjoyed it. It's a really offbeat and amusing send-up of mobster movies.

I'm a totally bitchin' bio writer from Mars!
