How Much Did Each Audience Member Win?

How many people were in each section, and did they get anything besides a share of the winnings?

reply

I know it's not very clear... When they add $1000 to winning couples' section do each of those audience members get total amount or do they split it among the group?

reply

It couldn't have been very much! If there is about 300 people tops in the audience that is 100 per couple, and the big winners split $1200 or so, it's about $12.00 per person, lol. And yes, the runners-up audience members also split whatever the couple won, which could only be $100! Too funny.

I read somewhere there was as much as 122 in each rooting section.

Basil: Don't mention the war. I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it.

I've been watching buzzr lately and this show. Never watched it when it originally aired. I can't believe all the people in the winning sections have to share the money. They get nothing big at all.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking of this. These people went home with a few bucks each, what a cheap show. Never watched it when it aired, never even heard of it until now with Buzzr.

They were the absolute best and funniest. I am so sorry that Bobby died so young it would have been nice to see how they weathered the years.

I have been wondering that myself. I could never figure it out. It was a cheap show Bert Convy would act like adding 1000. Dollars was a big deal it was so cheap if couples tied they had to split the 1000. Dollars. What could all of those people have gotten? A dollar three eighty?

reply

Well $1000 back then WAS a lot of money, but splitting 100+ ways was silly. The most I've seen a couple win so far was $1500.

I was thinking about the absurdity of splitting $1K amongst the audience. But then I remembered that game shows often taped more than one episode a day. Some game shows, I think, even taped a week's worth of shows in two days.

So I wondered if the cheering section got to sit in on multiple tapings and win a combination of whatever the celebs earned that day, not just for the one episode. That makes more sense to me, because like everyone said, if they split up $100-$1K for the audience, you were looking at the cheering section getting $1-$10 per person. And why would the audience be so damned happy that their celebrity won $1K if it meant them getting $10 at the most?
