watch out, 'e's got a shootah!

classic cult cops and robbers series.thaw and waterman kicked loads of **** during those 4 fist-popping, tyre-screeching years. my favourite episodes are 'thou shalt not kill', 'hit and run', 'nightmare', 'night out', 'poppy' and 'trojan bus' in which the squad do battle with those aussie crooks.

I like the one where an old flame puts his shooter in the dishwasher as its got oil on it. There's also a good punch up in the pub.

Yes Jack's aware that the blaggers are doing the bank but wants Mr Big who's well out of it, using a radio to keep in touch. The old boy who shouts about there being Old Bill all over the place looks like a refugee from Only Fools.

I've got it on the dvd's done by Network they're obviously a labour of love-fantasically restored. Ser 1&2 on the shelf show Regan pointing 'is shootah on the spines. I had that Carter in the back of me taxi once "sarf of the river! At this time of night-yore 'avin' a larf ain't ya?" That shut 'im up. The punch up went four ways-Sweeney,locals,Scotch football supporters and bar staff-excellent!

Seventies villains only ever seemed to have sawn off shotguns, or the occasional wartime service revolver or Luger. Either that or a pickaxe handle and stocking mask!

American shows aren't much better. Someone made up a revolver rifle with a silencer which doesn't exist in reality, but it has appeared in a over a dozen different movies and TV shows. So basically, the coppers and the villians get to use whatever is in the prop room. OTOH, that little 6" pistol grip pump shotgun started out as a joke between a few guys, and after making it into a couple of TV shows, over 4000 have been sold based on the "cool" factor.

Apparently Nagant revolvers can be silenced but no-one talks about them. ;O)
