Does Rocky seem dimwitted or is it just me?

He seems to give off that effect

reply

He's wise in some ways, naive in others.

reply

It's just you.

Great 1st post by the way, seems kind of dimwitted...

You can't go wrong drowning politicians Henry. The Black Swan (1942)

reply

He's not streetwise like Jim is.

But he does have a lot of country common sense.

reply

He's not dimwitted, he's just very old fashioned and naive.

Also, he was probably in the early stages of senility.

Rocky was only in his sixties, so I don't think dimentia was one of his problems. He was just old-fashioned, somewhat naive, and too trusting at times.

reply

My favorite Rocky moment is in the episode where Rita is friends with the old woman whose accountant (?) murders her to hide his embezzlement. Rocky says "Do you know what the Good Book says about them that steals from widows and orphans? It don't pull no punches!"

One of the better Rocky moments is when he cuts the tire stem off of the oil swindlers' car and then later tells Rockford how he signed the oil lease with his left hand.
One of his goofier moments was his repeated rendition of "Freeze, Turkey!".

reply

Or when he and Jim go to Rockford's trailer and two guys jump them. Rocky nails one of them with a right cross and, when they run out, tries to kick one of them in the seat of his pants. Sadly, it turns out that Rocky broke his hand punching that thug.

One of my favorite Rocky episodes was "Great Blue Lake", the way he kept berating Fast Harry.

reply

Mine is in the episode where Susan Strasberg plays Jim's ex who completely betrays him. Becker asks why Jim is being so grouchy, and Rocky answers "He liked her. That's all." Which is childlike, but completely right.

reply

He admitted that himself. "I like her. I don't trust her - she'd sell me out for ten cents on the dollar, but I like her".

reply

Seemed of normal intelligence to me.

reply

I find it hard to believe that 'Rocky' is Rockford's father. I suppose in a Country of 300 million or more there are bound to be all levels of intelligence, 'Rocky's' level is pretty low. I don't agree with those that think he has natural intelligence, I think his lack of 'common sense' is his worse fault.

reply

Well, we never met the Mrs.. She could've been the brains in the marriage.

reply

Check out the 1940 "20 Mule Team", starring Wallace Beery & nephew Noah Jr. You will quickly see who Noah, or "Rocky", is emulating.

reply

I also saw him in the original "Red River".
