Yeah I do think the fact it wasn't on the BBC means people don't rate Rising Damp as highly as they should.
BBC comedies from the 70s have been shown on terrestrial TV every week for the last 30 odd years, so a lot of people have been able to get to know and love shows like Porridge, Fawlty Towers and Are You Being Served? over the years. I can't remember Rising Damp ever being shown on ITV 1.
Luckily ITV3 now show it and people like me who weren't around in the 70s can get to see such a great show.
For me, it was the best sitcom of the 70s. It was consistently hilarious and brilliantly acted, especially by Leonard Rossiter, whose performance as Rigsby has never been bettered in any show.
It finished just 27th in the poll to find Britain's best sitcom. It should've been in the top 5.
