I haven't seen the cartoon series

Story-wise the cartoon isn't bad. But don't look for any innovative animation!

1. Planet of the Apes (1968) 8/10 ( It's the ultimate king, of all B-movies )
( Eight - For it's ethnic, religious connotations... and for not taking itself too seriously )

2. TV Series ( 1974 ) 5/10
( Five, for never taking itself too seriously )

3. ...and the rest of the derivative 'B-movie' gaggle of films, past and present 2/10
( Because every film since is exploitative nonsense, that takes itself far too seriously )

reply

1. The original movie

2 Through 5. The sequels

6. The TV show

7. The cartoon

8. The reboot

Odd numbered Rocky movies were usually better than the even numbered movies. Even numbered Star Trek movies were better than the odds. Was there any kind of pattern with Planet Of The Apes movies?

"The Planet Of The Apes" TV show is now being shown on MeTV. Please click on

The longer the title (when typed out), the better the entry. This only applies for the original run from 1968-1975. Additionally, the original movie and live action series are exempt from this rule. That's my take.

1. Planet of the Apes ('68)
2. Escape from the POTA
3. Conquest of the POTA
4. Return to the POTA
5. Planet of the Apes ('74)
6. Battle for the POTA
7. Planet of the Apes ('01)
8. Beneath the POTA

It's tough to rank the reboot series because they're just so different from the originals in style and themes. This is probably why I don't have much affection for them - I keep wishing they were more like the original series so I will just leave them unranked.

@jefgg
I disagree about Rocky mostly because of Rocky V. It is complete garbage. I also disagree about Star Trek, but I know I'm with the minority there. II, III, IV, and Star Trek ('09) are my favorites.

Whoa. I agree that Rocky V was sub par. But overall I still prefer the odd numbered Rocky movies over the evens. Star Trek V was my favorite odd numbered Star Trek movie, but it still wasn't that great.

You and I have a major difference of opinions. It's all good. The late Yogi Berra would say our similarities are different. So if I bought the entire Rocky and Star Trek series on DVD I could sell you the even Rockies and odd Star Treks at a discount.

What did you think of "Star Trek Generations"? I remember discussing that movie before it came out. My buddy and I concurred that it would be either Star Trek VII or New Star Trek I. So either way it would be an odd number and probably stink.

reply

I kind of like Generations. You've got the old cast handing the reins to the new cast. You've got Malcolm McDowell being Malcolm McDowell. The climactic fight had me engaged. It was mostly forgettable, but I remember enjoying it when I watched it all those years ago. And if we're considering it the first of the next generation series, it would be my favorite.

I'll take the odds in Mission: Impossible also. II was fun and over-the-top but bad and Ghost Protocol didn't have much heart.

This is completely off the topic of conversation and belongs on another message board, but have you seen The Monster (2016)? I'm not saying you should, I just wanted your opinion.

I don't go to the movies frequently. I don't know anything about "The Monster".
