yes --- i can still remember the green truck -- i was a little kid at that time -- and the show was even on on german tv -- since i lived in munich at that time it was broadcasted. is there anyone in the world that has this series on vhs or even dvd ??

reply

hey Would you be interested to know that I drive that big green truck from the show moving on? I do not own it but my good friend and sometimes partner does. It is a 1976 Kenworth 900-A with a 400 cummins big cam with a 13 speed eaton. It has a 72 inch flat top sleeper. It is scheduled to get a make over this summer as it is pretty rough now. If you want pictures just e-mail a response.

Hi, I'm the managing editor of Truckers News magazine, and we're doing a cover story on trucking movies and television shows. We've talked to the guys that own the B.J. and the Bear truck and Duel truck, as well as some of the stars. We'd love to see photos of the Movin' On truck and talk to you guys. I wish I'd seen this post earlier - we don't have much time left!

Please e-mail me: [email protected]

Thanks!

Just read the Truckers News with the article you speak of. Good job, couldn't get off the fuel islands without reading!!! Saw Duel as a kid, watched BJ,and have been OTR for 21 years now......curse those damn rigs in your article!!! LOL

reply

Hey jicenogle72. It must be a real treat to drive a peice of TV history like that one! I am a trucker to. Have been since '87. I've been OTR and driven about everything. I'm local now.I had always hoped that someone had saved these old trucks.I have spoken to the present owner of the "Rubber Duck" Mack from "Convoy" recently. (He is in Missouri) He has a "Duel" truck too. I had watched "Movin' On" as a kid and fell in love with trucks. I build models as well and am prowling eBay for an original "Movin' On" truck kit. Anyway...just thought I would drop you a line. I must say; I do envy you, getting to drive that truck! Later.

reply

Where are you located and are you sure the truck is a 76? I own the 74 from the first season and I believe the only other truck was a 75 since the show went off the air in spring of 1976. I would love to see some pics if you have some.

Like you guys, I was engulfed in the truckin'/cb thing. In '74 I was 10 and built a model of their KW. Even wrote to the studio to get the correct color. I still have the model, packed up, though. But they also sent me a 'signed' picture of Will & Sonny next to their truck.

Keep on truckin'!

Does anybody know the name of the episode that was filmed in Seaside, Oregon? I was there and was a junior in high school.

reply

Is this the same truck featured on the show American trucker thats on tv on speed channel?

reply

It may be the same one restored or it could be a replica.

They have had replicas of the 'B.J. and the Bear' truck and a replica of the truck in 'Smokey and the Bandit'...

reply

i too remember watching movin'on on tv in the seventies as 8 or 9 year old boy.

I found some of the series on this site. Unfortunately they do not have the whole series though but it is a start.

Forget reruns -- when this was on, Claude Akins' family couldn't see him in it; he was from Atlanta and the local affiliate decided not to air it. (This was far from the stupidest thing that station did in those days)

As to reruns -- the rule of thumb is that a series needs at least five years tohave enough episodes to make a viable syndication package. (About the only exception to that rule i can think of is the original Star Trek, and it's atypical, both because of its fan base, and the fact that more episodes were rpoduced in a season in those days.) Star Trek: Next Generation was planned for a minimum run of five seasons, for that reason.

I loved that show too. I was around 10 yrs old. I would really like to get copies of the show. My fathers truck was used in three episodes - one of them, he actually drove the truck and you can see him. I also have the "Movin' On" 1/25th scale truck model (it's still in storage somewhere). If anyone knows where to get reruns, please let me know - it would be much appreciated! Thanks, Jerry.

In Holland the series was on Tv on 1976-77. I was 13-14 years old and it was my absolute favorite! Iam very interested in copy's of the series on DVD because we are unable to see USA VHS copies on our Dutch VHS-players.
If anybody can help me please let me know.

He even bought me the remote control green Kenworth from the show. I have a picture of myself holding it. I must find it somewhere. I wish i still had that toy. Wonder what it would be worth today!..Please email me the picture of that kenworth, I'd like to see what it looks like today.

A lot of the shows were filmed around the San Diego area and my friend knew the guy that drove the green Kenworth on set.

reply

The episode "Ransom" was set in the San Diego area.

Can anyone identify the location on the shore with the cliffs? It looked like Point Loma, but I'm not a native so I can't say for sure.

reply

It probably was because my friends buddy was the driver of the Kenworth on the set and I was told that many episodes were shot in San Diego county.

You can purchase a copy of this episode at Truckerflicks.com. I watched this episode with my dad when it aired and he said he was also in it.

reply

Not enough episodes for syndication - the rule is you need at least five seasons for syndication.

reply

Probabaly because there aren't enough episodes - generally a show has to run five seasons or more in order to get enough episodes for a syndicated rerun package.

reply

I have bought dvd's of Movin on at www.truckerflicks.com , they shipped it whitin 10 days to the Netherlands!

reply

Youtube has an episode. "General Delivery"

For what its worth, years ago it was rerun on a independent station in Albuquerque, NM. Don't ask me what station or call letters as it was years ago, sometime around 1985. I just remember seeing it on here and there at the time. So if they showed it then, they can show it now and I wished that somebody would.

My Family TV network shows "Movin' On" reruns.

"The Old South Will Rise Again" is on right now.

reply

For anyone who's interested, Movin' On (which I've never heard of or seen before, but I grew up watching Claude Atkins in everything else he was in,it seems, lol) is showing late nights (around 2 a.m.) on the DECADES digital channel. That's what fun about watching DECADES---it shows forgotten shows like these I've never heard of.
