Honestly, Michael Landon really made Walnut Grove into a real Town. There was no side characters. The ingals, The Wilders, The Olsens, The Garveys, DR Becker etc.. They all received character development and grew throughout the seasons, they each had their own musical theme, they even had episodes only dedicated to them. By the end of the show you felt like you knew Walnut Grove personally and all it's habitant. A lot of shows tried desperately to duplicate that level of world building like DR Queen for example but in my opinion none of them reached the level of Little house when it comes to that. I honestly cannot think of any other shows where I felt so familiar with all the characters.

Wholeheartedly agree. The writers and producers did a wonderful job with the realness of Walnut Grove. You could almost taste the candy in Oleson's Mercantile! And I remember being nervous everytime Doc Baker showed up because it meant someone might be in danger. There was a British show called "All Creatures Great and Small" that was set in Yorkshire and had a similar feeling. Genuinely miss shows like these. Wish we had some like them today. Heavens knows it's nice to spend time in a world where most people strive to be be kind to one another.

Yeah they just do not make shows like these anymore :( Anne with an E on Netflix really came close to it but they cancelled it

Yes, indeed. I am grateful that at least Little House is still available on DVD for future generations.

Try "Good Witch" on Hallmark (and Netflix). A world of nice people in a nice town. Perfect escapism from stressful reality.

If you like this show, the closest show today that I’ve seen come close to it, is When Calls the Heart on Hallmark. It has a “little house sorta feel” to it.

As it turns out, there is a reason for this. Michael Landon Jr is somehow involved in the production of this series (One of the executive producers I believe?)

There is also a spin off of this series titled: When Hope Calls, which doesn’t seem too bad either.

We do enjoy Hallmark Channel. One of the few channels everyone can watch without worrying about something objectionable popping up. Thank you for the recommendation. :)

The show did have several underdeveloped characters or the random character that lived next door that you would never see again. Fun show but I always hated the bad continuity and timeline.
