For entertainment, hang Chuck by his feet, gagged and bound, ribs exposed, in the center room of the blind school. Then hand the kids some hickory sticks, and tell them that he’s a Piñata, and to have at it! Then sit back with a bowl of popcorn, and take in the fun. Maybe even charge an admittance, the proceeds to go to the blind school; you know it would book up fast!

Now that I’d pay cash on the barrel head to see! 😀

Probably sing to my self a lot of more than I do now. I'd also read, go outside. I'd pretty much do some of the stuff I do now, except a lot more

For a more serious answer, I’ll offer the following. The only time that farmers in the 19th century would have found themselves with extra time, would have been in the fall/winter. Reading, as suggested by Peaceful224 is a great activity, and this is how I spent much of my leisure time in the pre-internet era. But my understanding is that books were rather expensive in the 19th century, comparatively speaking, though I would think that newspapers would have been affordable to the average family of the time. Other activities, following the harvest, might have included canning, hunting, fishing, crafts. I’m sure a lot of knitting and mending of clothes took place during this time. I also read that most children back then were born around the summer time, because there was little to do during the fall and winter. And since they had some extra time on their hands, they did a lot of that thing that boys and girls do together 😉

I would have tapped Nellie in my spare time. After she married and divorced her pig farmer, she was a jezebel. Couldn't slow her down, and all the guys had to wait their turn for her though turnover was quite rapid since she was so wild. She was driven out of Walnut Grove after all the men and women developed a severe case of syphilis, so she moved to NYC with her gay friend who sadly died of AIDS. It is suspected that Albert was the one who brought AIDS to Walnut Grove and poor Percival caught it from his demon seed.

Hang out with the horses, read, fish, plant a garden, tend to the garden, learn to speak Navajo, embroider stuff, play a fiddle...
