Laura running Bunny through the fence

She mentions the fence not being there before, so assuming they were on someone elses land?
And then even Charles acts all put out that someone would put a fence up. If it is on their land, it is their right and nobody elses business..
I cannot imagine someone would waste the money and labor to just put up a fence in a random field.
So here is a news flash, Laura and Pa, maybe the fence was installed to keep people like Laura from trespassing and trampling all over their property.

Putting up a fence is one thing but barb wire fences are sometimes difficult to see. They are illegal in a lot of jurisdictions and for good reason.

And in the 1800's barbed wire or "devil's rope" played a big part in decimating buffalo herds on the real open plains as well as killing a lot of cattle. Charles didn't invent the "fools and their fences" line he utters.
